Scholarship Programs Available to Single Parents and Low-Income Families

There are many scholarship programs out there for single parents. In addition to contacting local colleges and universities and checking our state-by-state listing of single parent scholarships, consider applying for the following national scholarship programs:

1. Raise the Nation


Details:
  • Raise the Nation offers scholarships for single moms and their children
  • These scholarships are available to single moms who have been denied funding for education
  • There is a one-time $25 application processing fee

2. Financial Aid for Women


Details:
  • For women only
  • Includes links to a variety of scholarship opportunities for women

3. Programs Offered by The Assistance League


Details:
  • Provides a database of community-based programs
  • Scroll down the list to find your state
  • Locate “Scholarships” in red

4. Women’s Independence Scholarship Program from The Sunshine Lady Foundation, Inc.


Details:
  • This scholarship is open to women who are direct survivors of domestic abuse
  • To apply, you must be a U.S. Citizen
  • You must be accepted into an accredited course of study

5. Women’s Opportunity Awards from Soroptimist.org


Details:
  • Applications are accepted between July 1st and Dec. 1st only
  • Applications must be submitted through your local region/state

6. The Jeannette Rankin Foundation

Details
  • Applicants must be women, aged 35 or older
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited program
  • Applicants must show financial need and be considered low-income
